Bingo in Oklahoma
Oklahoma has for a long time been analogous with Bingo. This is because the Native bands of Oklahoma have operated Bingo games for generations. Patrons from every one of the neighboring states pile in trucks and visit Oklahoma to enjoy Bingo over the weekends.
The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) was introduced after a precedent setting decision by The U.S. Supreme Court just the prior year. From that instance, twenty three of the thirty nine Indian bands located in Oklahoma have established bingo halls. The Chickasaw were the first Oklahoma Indian tribes to take advantage of the betting laws, and today run ten gambling dens of their own. Bingo was the game on which these gambling halls were built on. Electronic games like slot machines weren’t approved, because they’re believed to lead to gambling problems more than bingo.
In recent years, Oklahoma law has altered to permit big American Indian gambling gambling halls. You’ll now see Indian casinos with slot machines, video poker and twenty-one tables. Craps and roulette are still not authorized in the American Indian gambling halls yet, but that is only a waiting game. No one can say what having other games in the bingo parlors will do for the appeal of bingo.
