Will the Smoking Ban in the United Kingdom Take Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Web?
An abundance has been written in the press just a while ago regarding the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the anti smoking law in the United Kingdom. Conditions have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive tax breaks to help keep the industry afloat. However does the web version of this traditional game provide a salvation, or will it never compare to its land based relative?
Bingo has been an established game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game lately had experienced a recent resurgence in popularity with younger men and women opting to go to the bingo halls in place of the bars on a weekend. This is all about to be reversed with the enacting of the anti smoking law all over United Kingdom.
Players will no longer be able to smoke while dabbing numbers. From the summer of ‘07 every public place will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most popular areas where folks enjoy smoking.
The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already illegal in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plummeted and the business is literally struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they haven’t deserted this classic game?
The answer is on the internet. Players know that they can wager on bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and cigarette and still have a chance at massive prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened just about perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course betting on on the internet could never replace the collective aspect of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of people the rules have left a number of bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
