Could the Cigarette Ban in the UK Drive Bingo Players Online?
A lot has been written in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry being hit as a consequence of the anti smoking law in Britain. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive aid to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. But does the internet version of this classic game present a reprieve, or might it never compare to its land based peer?
Bingo has been an established game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game of late had seen a recent comeback in appeal with younger people opting to visit the bingo parlours rather than the clubs on a Friday night. This is all about to be reversed with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law around England and Wales.
No longer will gamblers be permitted to smoke whilst marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public place will not be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most popular places where players enjoy smoking.
The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already illegal in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Of course they haven’t forgotten this age old game?
The answer is on the net. Gamblers realise that they can bet on bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and cigarette and still enjoy massive prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened almost perfectly with the anti smoking law.
Of course playing on the internet is unlikely to replace the collective portion of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
