Will the Anti Smoking Law in the UK Take Bingo Players On to the Internet?

A lot has been talked in the press just a while ago about the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the cigarette ban in England. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive aid to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However can the web version of this traditional game provide a reprieve, or might it not compare to its real life peer?

Bingo is an age old game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game recently had experienced a recent increase in appeal with younger members of society opting to visit the bingo parlours in place of the discos on a Friday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the cigarette ban across United Kingdom.

No longer will enthusiasts be able to smoke whilst dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 all public locations will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favored places where players enjoy smoking.

The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo halls. Numbers have dropped and the industry is literally struggling for its life. But where did the players go? Surely they have not given up on this established game?

The answer is online. Players are now realizing that they can play bingo from their computer while enjoying a beverage and cig and in the end, have a chance at massive jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.

Of course wagering on on the internet will never replace the social portion of going over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of players the governing edicts have left many bingo players with little alternative.
