Can the Anti Cigarette Law in England Drive Bingo Players On to the Internet?
Much has been talked in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry being hit because of the anti cigarette law in the UK. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. However can the web version of this quintessential game provide a reprieve, or will it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar equivalent?
Bingo has been an ancient game usually played by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game recently had seen a recent comeback in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo parlors rather than the bars on a Saturday night. All this is about to be reversed with the introduction of the anti smoking law across United Kingdom.
Players will no longer be permitted to smoke at the same time marking numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public area will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favored areas where folks like to puff on cigarettes.
The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo parlours. Players have dropped and the business is literally struggling for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Certainly they haven’t given up on this age old game?
The answer is on the net. People are now realizing that they can gamble on bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and smoke and still enjoy massive cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course playing on the internet is unlikely to replace the social portion of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the law has left a number of bingo players with no alternative.
