Might the Anti Cigarette Law in the United Kingdom Drive Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Net?

Much has been talked in the papers recently concerning the bingo industry struggling because of the anti cigarette law in England. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big aid to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. But will the net adaptation of this classic game provide a salvation, or will it never compare to its real life kin?

Bingo has been an enduring game generally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game of late had seen a recent increase in appeal with younger members of society opting to hit the bingo halls rather than the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to change with the enforcement of the anti smoking law throughout United Kingdom.

Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst dabbing numbers. From the summer of ‘07 every public location will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favored locations where people enjoy smoking.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already illegal in the bingo parlours. Profits have dropped and the industry is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they haven’t given up on this ancient game?

The answer is on the internet. Players realise that they can gamble on bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and fag and in the end, have a chance at huge cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.

Of course playing on the web can never replace the communal portion of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of people the law has left a number of bingo players with no alternative.
