Can the Smoking Ban in England Force Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Internet?

A lot has been reported in the press recently concerning the bingo industry being hit as a consequence of the smoking ban in England. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big tax cuts to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. But will the net variation of this traditional game present a reprieve, or will it in no way compare to its real life opposite?

Bingo is an established game normally played by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game of late had undergone a recent return in appeal with younger men and women deciding to visit the bingo parlors instead of the discos on a Friday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the legislating of the anti smoking law around United Kingdom.

No more will players be able to smoke while marking numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public places will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favorite areas where many people like to puff on cigarettes.

The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo parlors. Players have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Surely they haven’t cast aside this familiar game?

The answer is on the web. Gamblers know that they can bet on bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and fag and in the end, enjoy massive cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course betting on on the net can never replace the social aspect of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of men and women the governing edicts have left many bingo players with little choice.
