Will the Cigarette Ban in the United Kingdom Drive Bingo Enthusiasts Online?
An abundance has been reported in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry struggling as a result of the cigarette ban in Britain. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded big tax cuts to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. However does the web adaptation of this traditional game provide a lifeline, or might it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar peer?
Bingo has been an age old game usually played by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game lately had undergone a recent comeback in popularity with younger members of society deciding to go to the bingo parlors in place of the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law across UK.
No more will enthusiasts be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public places will not be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favored locations where many people like to smoke.
The results of the anti cigarette law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plummeted and the industry is literally fighting for its life. But where did all the players go? Of course they haven’t abandoned this enduring game?
The answer is online. Gamblers realise that they can wager on bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a drink and fag and in the end, enjoy massive cash rewards. This is a recent development and has timed itself almost perfectly with the anti cigarette law.
Of course gambling on on the internet is unlikely to replace the communal aspect of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of players the governing edicts have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
