Can the Anti Smoking Law in England Drive Bingo Enthusiasts Online?
Much has been reported in the papers recently regarding the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the cigarette ban in Britain. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded big tax cuts to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But does the net version of this quintessential game present a lifeline, or will it not compare to its bricks and mortar peer?
Bingo has been an age old game normally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game recently had experienced a recent comeback in acceptance with younger men and women opting to visit the bingo halls in place of the clubs on a weekend. All this is about to be destroyed with the legislating of the anti smoking law all over UK.
Players will no longer be able to smoke whilst marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 every public location will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored places where folks enjoy smoking.
The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo parlors. Profits have plunged and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they have not abandoned this age old game?
The answer is on the net. Players are now realizing that they can gamble on bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and smoke and in the end, enjoy massive jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course betting on on the web is unlikely to replace the social part of going over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of men and women the governing edicts have left a number of bingo players with no option.
