Might the Anti Smoking Law in Britain Force Bingo Players Online?

[ English ]

Much has been stated in the press recently regarding the bingo industry struggling because of the anti cigarette law in England. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge tax cuts to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But does the online version of this quintessential game present a salvation, or might it never compare to its land based opposite?

Bingo has been an familiar game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game of late had experienced a recent increase in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo halls instead of the clubs on a weekend. This is all about to change with the enforcement of the anti smoking law around UK.

Players will no longer be permitted to smoke while marking numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 every public place will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most common places where folks enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Profits have plunged and the industry is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Surely they haven’t deserted this established game?

The answer is on the net. Players realise that they can bet on bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and smoke and in the end, enjoy monstrous jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has happened just about perfectly with the anti smoking law.

Of course wagering on online will never replace the communal portion of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a group of men and women the law has left a good many bingo players with little choice.
