Could the Anti Smoking Law in the United Kingdom Force Bingo Players Online?
A lot has been talked in the press recently about the bingo industry being hit as a result of the cigarette ban in the UK. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. But will the online adaptation of this classic game provide a salvation, or might it in no way compare to its land based peer?
Bingo has been an classic game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game of late had seen a recent comeback in acceptance with younger men and women opting to visit the bingo parlours in place of the clubs on a Friday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the legislating of the anti cigarette law across England and Wales.
Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst marking numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public locations will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored places where players like to puff on cigarettes.
The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo parlors. Numbers have dropped and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Surely they haven’t cast aside this ancient game?
The answer is on the net. People realize that they can enjoy bingo from their computer while enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and still enjoy massive jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has happened just about perfectly with the anti cigarette law.
Of course gambling on on the web is unlikely to replace the collective part of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of players the law has left a good many bingo enthusiasts with no option.
