Might the Anti Smoking Law in England Take Bingo Enthusiasts Online?
A lot has been reported in the press not long ago about the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the anti smoking law in the United Kingdom. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive aid to assist in keeping the businesses alive. But can the web adaptation of this quintessential game present a salvation, or will it in no way compare to its land based opposite?
Bingo has been an established game usually played by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game lately had experienced a recent comeback in appeal with younger people opting to hit the bingo halls instead of the clubs on a weekend. All this is about to be destroyed with the enforcement of the anti smoking law across Britain.
Players will no longer be permitted to smoke while dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 all public places will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most common locations where folks like to puff on cigarettes.
The effects of the cigarette ban can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plummeted and the business is absolutely struggling for its life. But where have the players gone? Certainly they haven’t abandoned this established game?
The answer is online. Players are now realizing that they can enjoy bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a drink and fag and in the end, have a chance at huge prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened just about perfectly with the anti cigarette law.
Of course wagering on on the net will never replace the social portion of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the rules have left a lot of bingo players with no alternative.
